In 1084, Bruno, accompanied by a few companions, settled in the heart of the Chartreuse massif.
Solitude, silence, and fraternal communion are the defining marks of the way of life they established.
Around 1145, nuns decided to follow the monastic rule of the Carthusian monks.

The Chartreuse of Sélignac today
A charterhouse was founded in Sélignac in 1202.
The Carthusians decided to close this house in 2001.
The Order then entrusted Sélignac to laypeople who wished to live in a spirit close to that of a charterhouse. They maintain a presence that allows individuals to experience a retreat in a rhythm similar to that of a charterhouse.
The Chartreuse de Sélignac will be pleased to welcome you in 2025.
